Emilio Zagheni, "The Migration of Scholars and Development"
Migration of scholars is a major driver of innovation and of diffusion of knowledge. We leverage bibliometric data, indexed by Scopus (for over 36 million journal articles and reviews) to develop a novel and global database of scholarly migration (1998-2017), where migration events are inferred from changes in authors’ institutional affiliations over time. In this talk, I will present how we developed the longitudinal database on internal and international movements of scholars, offer descriptive statistics for trends over time, as well as show initial results from our statistical analyses to identify and quantify drivers of geographic mobility of talent and the role of economic development.

Datos Small Data. #Cacharreando

Emilio Zagheni is Executive Director of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) and Affiliate Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington, where he served as Training Director of the Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology. He received his Ph.D. in Demography (2010) and M.A. in Statistics (2008) from U.C. Berkeley. Zagheni is best known for his work on combining digital trace data and traditional sources to track and understand migrations and to advance population science.

Birds (class Aves) are a group of endothermic vertebrates, characterised by feathers, a beak with no teeth, the laying of hard-shelled eggs, a high metabolic rate, a four-chambered heart, and a lightweight but strong skeleton. Birds live worldwide and range in size from the 5 cm (2 in) bee hummingbird to the 2.75 m (9 ft) ostrich. They rank as the class of tetrapods with the most living species, at approximately ten thousand, with more than half of these being passerines, sometimes known as perching birds or, less accurately, as songbirds.
The fossil record indicates that birds are the last surviving dinosaurs, having evolved from feathered ancestors within the theropod group of saurischian dinosaurs. True birds first appeared during the Cretaceous period, around 100 million years ago,[3] and the last common ancestor is estimated to have lived about 95 million years ago.[4] DNA-based evidence finds that birds radiated extensively around the time of the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event that killed off the non-avian dinosaurs. Birds in South America survived this event and then migrated to other parts of the world via multiple land bridges while diversifying during periods of global cooling.[5] Primitive bird-like "stem-birds" that lie outside class Aves proper, in the group Avialae, have been found dating back to the mid-Jurassic period.[1] Many of these early stem-birds, such as Archaeopteryx, were not yet capable of fully powered flight, and many retained primitive characteristics like toothy jaws in place of beaks and long bony tails.[1][6] Music By Tadros Brothers:

Newark Liberty International Airport (IATA: EWR, ICAO: KEWR, FAA LID: EWR), originally Newark Metropolitan Airport and later Newark International Airport, is an international airport straddling the boundary between the cities of Newark in Essex County and Elizabeth in Union County, New Jersey. The airport is currently owned jointly by the cities of Elizabeth and Newark and leased to and operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.[3]
Newark Airport is located 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Downtown Newark, and 9 miles (14 km) west-southwest of the borough of Manhattan. It is one of three major airports serving the New York metropolitan area; the others are John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport, which are also operated by the Port Authority.[4]
The airport is located near the Newark Airport Interchange, the junction between Interstate 95 and Interstate 78 (both components of the New Jersey Turnpike), as well as U.S. Routes 1 and 9, which has junctions with U.S. Route 22 and Route 81. The airport handles almost as many flights as John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), despite being 40 percent of JFK's land size. The City of Newark built the airport on 68 acres (28 ha) of marshland in 1928 and the Army Air Corps operated the facility during World War II. After the Port Authority took it over in 1948, an instrument runway, a terminal building, a control tower and an air cargo center were added. The airport's original 1935 central terminal building is a National Historic Landmark. EWR employs more than 24,000 people.[5]
In 2017, EWR was the sixth-busiest airport in the United States by international passenger traffic and fifteenth-busiest airport in the country. It served 43,393,499 passengers in 2017, which made EWR the 43rd-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic. In 2019, the airport saw 46,336,452 passengers, the most in its history.
Newark serves 50 carriers and is the third-largest hub for United Airlines, the airport's largest tenant, and FedEx Express, its second-largest tenant (operating in three buildings on two million square feet of airport property).[6] During the 12-month period ending in July 2014, over 68% of all passengers at the airport were carried by United Airlines.[7]

LatinX in AI (LXAI) at CVPR 2021: CinfonIA Research Overview with Pablo Arbeláez, Director of the Center for Research in Formation in Artificial Intelligence (CinfonIA) at Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia.
The workshop is a one-day event with invited speakers, oral presentations, and posters. The event brings together faculty, graduate students, research scientists, and engineers for an opportunity to connect and exchange ideas. There will be a panel discussion and a mentoring session to discuss current research trends and career choices in computer vision. While all presenters will identify primarily as LatinX, all are invited to attend.
