The creative industries refers to a range of economic activities which are concerned with the generation or exploitation of knowledge and information. They may variously also be referred to as the cultural industries (especially in Europe (Hesmondhalgh 2002, p. 14)) or the creative economy (Howkins 2001), and most recently they have been denominated as the Orange Economy in Latin America and the Caribbean (Buitrago & Duque 2013).
Howkins' creative economy comprises advertising, architecture, art, crafts, design, fashion, film, music, performing arts, publishing, R&D, software, toys and games, TV and radio, and video games (Howkins 2001, pp. 88–117). Some scholars consider that education industry, including public and private services, is forming a part of creative industry. There remain, therefore, different definitions of the sector (Hesmondhalgh 2002, p. 12)(DCMS 2006). Yet so far Howkins has not been internationally recognized.
The creative industries have been seen to become increasingly important to economic well-being, proponents suggesting that "human creativity is the ultimate economic resource," (Florida 2002, p. xiii) and that “the industries of the twenty-first century will depend increasingly on the generation of knowledge through creativity and innovation" (Landry & Bianchini 1995, p. 4).
A culture minister (sometimes cultural minister, minister of culture, minister for culture, or secretary of culture) is a Cabinet position in some governments responsible for protecting the national heritage of a country and promoting cultural expression. This responsibility usually manifests in the accompanying ministry governing the following:
The Minister for Culture (formally cabinet minister and head of the Ministry for Culture) is a member and minister of the Swedish Government and appointed by the Prime Minister. The minister heads the Ministry for Culture and is responsible for cultural issues and construction.
Before 1 December 1991, the cultural issues were handled by the Ministry of Education. Between 1991 and 2004, and from 2006 it's a separate ministry. In the years between 2004 and 2006, the issues were handled by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
The current Minister for Culture is Alice Bah Kuhnke, who was appointed on 3 October 2014.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports (Greek: Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού) is a government department of Greece which is entrusted with the preservation of the country's cultural heritage, the arts, as well as sports, through the subordinate General Secretariat for Sports. The incumbent Minister is Aristides Baltas. The Deputy Minister of Sports is Stavros Kontonis.
This ministry was established in 1971 as the Ministry of Culture and Science (Ὑπουργεῖον Πολιτισμοῦ καὶ Ἐπιστημῶν) and it was renamed the Ministry of Culture (Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού) on 26 July 1985. On 7 October 2009, it was merged with the Ministry of Touristic Development to form the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Τουρισμού). It ceased to exist on 21 June 2012, when the Ministry of Tourism was re-established and the culture portfolio was absorbed by the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs to form the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sport. The Ministry of Culture and Sport was re-established on 25 June 2013. On 27 January 2015 its area of responsibility was assigned to the Ministry of Culture, Education and Religious Affairs. On 23 September 2015 the Ministry was reintroduced.
In the United Kingdom government, the Minister for the Arts is a ministerial post, usually a low to middle-ranking minister to the much senior Secretary of State, who runs the entire department and is ultimately responsible for the department's brief.
The post has been in a variety of ministries, but after 1997 it has been a Minister of State position in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. From 1992 to 1997, the post was combined with the office of Secretary of State for National Heritage. The title of the post was changed to Minister for Culture in 2005, and to Minister for Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism in 2007. Under that last title, the office was held by Barbara Follett MP, who was appointed on 5 October 2008, until 22 September 2009.
The new Prime Minister, David Cameron appointed Ed Vaizey to the position as Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries at Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State level, a post Vaizey initially split between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), but is now entirely placed in the DCMS.
