The War is a 1994 drama film directed by Jon Avnet and starring Elijah Wood, Kevin Costner, and Mare Winningham. It is a coming of age tale set in Mississippi in the 1970s. The film gained Wood a young actor's award.
Stephen, a shell-shocked Vietnam veteran, returns from a mental hospital, which he entered voluntarily because he was suffering from nightmares about the war and had in consequence lost three jobs in a row. After having been treated and finally coming home again, he gets a new job as custodial engineer at a grammar school, but loses it again within less than one week because of a law forbidding people who spent time in a mental hospital to work within the vicinity of children. However, the Simmons family desperately needs money, so Stephen continues looking for work, and finds a job picking potatoes. There he makes friends with a man called Moe Henry, with whose help he succeeds in obtaining a job working in a mine - his best one yet.
In the meantime, the twins Lidia and Stu try to get away from the dreary reality of their lives. They find a tree in a forest close to their house and decide to build a tree house there. At first they and their friends argue over who has to construct it and who is allowed to use it; the three boys - Stu, Chet and Marsh - want it all to themselves, while the girls - Lidia, Elvadine and Amber - want them to work on it and share it afterwards. After several deals, they agree to build the tree house together. The girls get everything they need from the garbage heap belonging to the Lipnickis, a neighboring family with a reputation for bullying, who have a grudge against the Simmons and their friends. Unfortunately Billy, the youngest of the Lipnicki kids, discovers Lidia, Elvadine and Amber on his father's territory, so the girls have to pay him to keep quiet, but later after he falls under a candy coma his brothers force him to betray Lidia's secret.
"The War" is a song by the American rock band Angels & Airwaves. It was the fourth single from their debut studio album, We Don't Need to Whisper (2006), released on Geffen Records. It peaked at number nineteen on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2007. Tom DeLonge has described this song as anti-war, with specific references to the Invasion of Normandy in World War II. "The War" was the last song the band would play, during their We Don't Need to Whisper concerts, with Tom making a speech during the bridge.
Although "The War" never received an official music video, a short film and a live video were released. The short film depicts a futuristic environment, a battle on a beach where enemy combatants shoot up through the sand from an underground facility of some kind. After the battle, the underground facility is shown. In this facility, there is a character who is strapped to a hospital type bed. He breaks free and is shown escaping from the facility, running from the soldiers who occupy the facility and then becoming trapped on the top of a cliff with no place to go. As the enemy approaches at the end of the video, the character falls backward off of the cliff. This character is played by Bradley Horne, which is notable because he also played the significant role of Captain Lee Briggs in the 2011 Angels and Airwaves Science Fiction film, Love.
We Don't Need to Whisper is the debut studio album by the American rock band Angels & Airwaves. Recorded at Neverpants Ranch in San Diego, California and produced by guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, the album was released on May 23, 2006 through Geffen Records. In February 2005, DeLonge (who desired to spend more time with his family) departed from his former band Blink-182 after months of heated exchanges and increasing tension within the trio and spent the following three weeks in complete isolation, contemplating his life, career, and future in music.
We Don't Need to Whisper is the band's only album to bear the Parental Advisory label, though subsequent albums also contain explicit language.
Inspired by personal crises and global events, We Don't Need to Whisper was conceptualized as DeLonge taught himself to play instruments and created his own home studio. He recruited his longtime friend and guitarist David Kennedy of Box Car Racer, as well as drummer Atom Willard and bassist Ryan Sinn to form Angels & Airwaves, who were primarily inspired by arena rock groups such as U2 and The Police. DeLonge's later public statements regarding the band's music prompted media interest and concern from his relatives and family.
Nightlife is a human social activity.
Nightlife or Night Life or Nite Life may also refer to:
Nightlife is the fourth studio album by Irish band Thin Lizzy, released in 1974. It was produced by Ron Nevison and Phil Lynott, and was the first album to feature guitarists Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson.
Some reissue CDs, and occasionally other sources, spell the album title as Night Life, the same as the song title. However the original album title is Nightlife.
The song "Philomena" was written for Lynott's mother. "It's Only Money" was re-recorded 35 years later by Robertson on his 2011 solo album Diamonds and Dirt. Concrete Blonde also covered the song on their 1989 album Free.
A deluxe edition of Nightlife was released on 12 March 2012.
The album cover, designed by Jim Fitzpatrick, shows a panther-like creature in a city scene. The panther is often thought to be intended to represent Lynott, but Fitzpatrick has confirmed that the panther referred to the Black Panthers and African-American political figures like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King.
Bleeding Heart is one of several names given to albums of a 1968 jam session with Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and others. The albums were fashioned from an informal two-track tape recording made by Hendrix that was subsequently stolen from his apartment. The jam took place at the Scene club in New York City and various dates and participants have been suggested. Although it presents a unique setting, critics and biographers have generally found fault with the sound quality and Morrison's performance.
To relieve the pressures of touring and recording, Jimi Hendrix frequently jammed with musicians at local clubs. He was also a tape-recording enthusiast and traveled with his Sony two-track reel-to-reel recorder. Hendrix recorded several after-hours jams in New York for his personal use, around the time that he began recording material for the Electric Ladyland album at the Record Plant studio. Some of these include jams at the Cafe Au Go Go on March 17, 1968, with members of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band (Elvin Bishop, Phillip Wilson) and the Electric Flag (Harvey Brooks, Buddy Miles) and the Generation Club on April 15, 1968 with B.B. King, Bishop, Wilson, Buzzy Feiten, and Al Kooper. Partly because of its proximity to the Record Plant, Hendrix frequently jammed at the Scene club, which was owned by Steve Paul, the McCoys and later Johnny Winter's manager.

And so our sun may set, we've been in winter for so long
Don't give up on me yet, I will give you what you deserve
Though our arguments are many, and your eyes are always sore
I promise you we'll get there, this war is almost won
This war is almost won
And lose if you have to
Oh lose if you have to
Cause I've been putting you through this hell for so long
As long this stands your choice my dear, don't lose or we have won
Don't let your heart grow cold, when you go to sleep upset
Grow with me till we're old, we will find a way to heal
The bruises that will appear, from choices long ago
Hold on to our love my dear, don't think it's dead and done
When this war is almost won
And lose if you have to
Oh lose if you have to
Cause I've been putting you this hell for so long
As long this stands your choice my dear, don't lose or we have won
I'm running round in circles drinking whiskey and your wine
To drown the sound of endless questions in your mind
Forget the way I treated you and trust that I will love you better
Give me all your patience, give me time x 3
