OPEC plus the international oil cartel just decide to cut production of oil by 2 million barrels per day.
This comes at a time right before U.S. elections and right at a time when oil prices were starting to fall, meaning that Russia's income from being able to sell oil and continue its war was also starting to fall.
And the United States of America, politicians lost their minds about it, saying crazy things like, “Oh, this is an act of war, we're going to stop providing military support and protection for you, Saudi Arabia. And oh, this is going to contribute to Russia gaining more income.”
You think?! Maybe if the government hadn't gotten in the way of increasing energy production, we wouldn't be in this predicament!

The oil war between the United States and OPEC has begun. And unfortunately, there will likely be casualties in the form of our wallets being pinched again.
The United States is now draining the SPR: its Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This is the nation's emergency store of oil, which it has set aside to use in times of crisis. The only thing is, there isn't really a major crisis that's going on, only the US government trying to keep prices low for the public.
This is playing right into the hands of OPEC, the world's major oil cartel controlling the vast majority of our oil production. OPEC has the ability to heavily manipulate the supply, meaning they can drive up prices. And the worse the pricing situation gets, the more the USA will dip into the SPR, and the more control OPEC will have.

At its monthly meeting this week, the OPEC cartel and its allies, which include Russia, moved to cut their combined daily production of crude oil by 2 million barrels per day (bpd). That's about 2% of global oil output. OPEC+ produces around 40% of the globe's crude.
It's the largest reduction since a midpandemic cut in 2020, and comes just two months ahead of the European Union's planned embargo on Russian oil.
It's also an affront to US President Joe Biden, who this summer made a controversial visit to Saudi Arabia, OPEC's largest oil-exporting nation and the group's de facto leader.

OPEC
Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC, /ˈoʊpɛk/ OH-pek) is an intergovernmental organization of 13 petroleum-exporting nations, founded in 1960 by the first five members, and headquartered since 1965 in Vienna, Austria. The 13 countries account for 40% of global oil production and 73% of the world's "proven" oil reserves, making OPEC a major influence on global oil prices.
OPEC's stated mission is "to coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of its member countries and ensure the stabilization of oil markets, in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consumers, a steady income to producers, and a fair return on capital for those investing in the petroleum industry." As of 2016, OPEC's members are Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (the de facto leader), United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Two-thirds of OPEC's oil production and reserves are in its six Middle Eastern countries that surround the oil-rich Persian Gulf.

This comes at a time right before U.S. elections and right at a time when oil prices were starting to fall, meaning that Russia's income from being able to sell oil and continue its war was also starting to fall.
And the United States of America, politicians lost their minds about it, saying crazy things like, “Oh, this is an act of war, we're going to stop providing military support and protection for you, Saudi Arabia. And oh, this is going to contribute to Russia gaining more income.”

The oil war between the United States and OPEC has begun. And unfortunately, there will likely be casualties in the form of our wallets being pinched again.
The United States is now draining the SPR: its Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This is the nation's emergency store of oil, which it has set aside to use in times of crisis. The only thing is, there isn't really a major crisis that's going on, only the US government trying to keep prices low for the public.
This is playing right into the hands of OPEC, the world's major oil cartel controlling the vast majority of our oil production. OPEC has the ability to heavily manipulate the supply, meaning they can drive up prices. And the worse the pricing situation gets, the more the USA will dip into the SPR, and the more control OPEC will have.

At its monthly meeting this week, the OPEC cartel and its allies, which include Russia, moved to cut their combined daily production of crude oil by 2 million barrels per day (bpd). That's about 2% of global oil output. OPEC+ produces around 40% of the globe's crude.
It's the largest reduction since a midpandemic cut in 2020, and comes just two months ahead of the European Union's planned embargo on Russian oil.
It's also an affront to US President Joe Biden, who this summer made a controversial visit to Saudi Arabia, OPEC's largest oil-exporting nation and the group's de facto leader.

OPEC plus the international oil cartel just decide to cut production of oil by 2 million barrels per day.
This comes at a time right before U.S. elections and right at a time when oil prices were starting to fall, meaning that Russia's income from being able to sell oil and continue its war was also starting to fall.
And the United States of America, politicians lost their minds about it, saying crazy things like, “Oh, this is an act of war, we're going to stop providing military support and protection for you, Saudi Arabia. And oh, this is going to contribute to Russia gaining more income.”
You think?! Maybe if the government hadn't gotten in the way of increasing energy production, we wouldn't be in this predicament!

The oil war between the United States and OPEC has begun. And unfortunately, there will likely be casualties in the form of our wallets being pinched again.
The United States is now draining the SPR: its Strategic Petroleum Reserve. This is the nation's emergency store of oil, which it has set aside to use in times of crisis. The only thing is, there isn't really a major crisis that's going on, only the US government trying to keep prices low for the public.
This is playing right into the hands of OPEC, the world's major oil cartel controlling the vast majority of our oil production. OPEC has the ability to heavily manipulate the supply, meaning they can drive up prices. And the worse the pricing situation gets, the more the USA will dip into the SPR, and the more control OPEC will have.

OPEC
Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC, /ˈoʊpɛk/ OH-pek) is an intergovernmental organization of 13 petroleum-exporting nations, founded in 1960 by the first five members, and headquartered since 1965 in Vienna, Austria. The 13 countries account for 40% of global oil production and 73% of the world's "proven" oil reserves, making OPEC a major influence on global oil prices.
OPEC's stated mission is "to coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of its member countries and ensure the stabilization of oil markets, in order to secure an efficient, economic and regular supply of petroleum to consumers, a steady income to producers, and a fair return on capital for those investing in the petroleum industry." As of 2016, OPEC's members are Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (the de facto leader), United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Two-thirds of OPEC's oil production and reserves are in its six Middle Eastern countries that surround the oil-rich Persian Gulf.

BENGALURU, Feb 6 (Reuters) - OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais said on Monday the collective decision to cut output in October was the right move and added that credit should be given to the OPEC+ alliance for its constructive role in supporting global market stability.
