In full: Rishi Sunak promises new laws to stop illegal migration and 'spurious' appeals
Rishi Sunak has promised to bring in new laws to tackle illegal immigration, saying anyone who comes to the UK illegally will not be allowed to stay.
Making a raft of announcements in the Commons, the prime minister said the legislation would be introduced early next year and mean people who do not come to the country through legal and safe routes "will be detained and swiftly returned either to their home country or a safe country where their asylum claim will be considered".

Rishi Sunak promises new laws to stop illegal migration in five point plan
Rishi Sunak announced a new deal with Albania to fast-track the deportation of migrants from the Balkan state that will help to remove the backlog of more than 100,000 asylum claims by the end of next year.
Announcing a new five-point plan to tackle illegal immigration in the Commons, the Prime Minister said the deal would see thousands of Albanians removed on weekly flights until the backlog had been ended.
He said the agreement with Albania would put it on a par with “safe” EU countries which would mean the “vast majority” of claims by Albanians can be declared unfounded and “those individuals can be swiftly returned.”

Rishi Sunak: public sector pay demands could cost families £1,000
Rishi Sunak has claimed that families would have to pay an extra £1,000 a year if the government met the pay demands of public sector workers in full.

On a visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, asked about the strikes, the prime minister said: ‘I’m not going to do is ask ordinary families up and down the country to pay an extra £1,000 a year to meet the pay demands of the union bosses. That wouldn’t be right and it wouldn’t be fair.’
When asked to give details of the new anti-union legislation being planned, Sunak said he was looking at 'tough' new laws, adding that the government ‘is trying its best to act reasonably’
