Germany confirms it will provide Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks
After weeks of reluctance, Germany has agreed to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, in what Kyiv hopes will be a game-changer on the battlefield.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the decision to send 14 tanks - and allow other countries to send theirs too - at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
US President Joe Biden's administration is also expected to announce plans to send at least 30 M1 Abrams tanks.
A Kremlin spokesman earlier said the tanks would "burn like all the rest".
Dmitry Peskov said there was an overestimation of the potential the tanks would bring to the Ukrainian army, and called the move a "failed plan".
But Ukrainian officials insist they are urgently in need of heavier weapons, and say sufficient battle tanks ...

BRUTAL AMBUSH!! Ukrainian Elite Forces destroy Russian Wagner Battalion Group with Brutal in Bakhmut
Six months of assaults on #Bakhmut as fighting against Russian forces intensifies. The front-line city of Bakhmut in eastern #Ukraine has been the focus of intense fighting for months. #Battles became fiercer this week, but Ukraine’s forces appear to be holding out against the #Russian, who recently claimed to have seized the nearby salt-mining town of Soledar – a victory #Kyiv denies.
If Russian forces or the #Wagner mercenaries who are also fighting in eastern Ukraine, or indeed both manage to capture Bakhmut, its fall would mark #moscow most significant #victory after months of humiliating setbacks. The city, famed for its wine-making, is symbolically relevant for Ukrainians for whom “Hold Bakhmut” is now a popular slogan.

I filled up my cup with Ukrainian wine
And I threw up my guts
But it’s the sign of a good time
We’re spending our parents money
Pretty please daddy
Pretty please mummy
We’re spending our parents money
Pretty please daddy
Pretty please mummy
Tell me to give up
Whilst I finish your wine
I sent out drunk emails
Just to tell you I’m fine
Saving up all our money
Trying to please daddy
Trying to please mummy
Saving up all our money
Trying to please daddy
Trying to please mummy
Ask me to grow up
But keep pouring me wine
I lost my cards and keys
Lost the ground from the sky
I fell and grazed my knees
Watch me walk a straight line
Counting up all our money
So we can play daddy
So we can play mummy
Counting up all our money
So we can play daddy
So we can play mummy
I gave up on luck
When I lost track of time
And you guys bought you homes
Less than I’m renting mine
Everything’s in a hurry
Trying to show daddy
Trying to show mummy
Everything’s in a hurry
Trying to show daddy
Trying to show mummy
Someone held me up
Went from the floor to sublime
The night caught in a rut
Went from mundane to divine
Everyone starts to worry

But Ukrainian officials insist they are urgently in need of heavier weapons, and say sufficient battle tanks could help Kyiv's forces seize back territory from the Russians.
A German government spokesperson said the decision to supply the tanks "follows our well-known line of supporting Ukraine to the best of our ability".
Germany also permitted other countries to send their Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine - which was restricted until now under export regulations.
The US and Germany had resisted internal and external pressure to send their tanks to Ukraine for some time.
Washington cited the extensive training and maintenance required for the high-tech Abrams.
Germans endured months of political debate about concerns that sending tanks would escalate the conflict and make Nato a direct party to the war with Russia.
US media is reporting that an announcement regarding Abrams shipments to Ukraine could come as soon as Wednesday, with unnamed officials cited as saying at least 30 could be sent.
However the timing remains unclear, and it could take many months for the US combat vehicles to reach the battlefront.
German officials had reportedly been insisting they would only agree to the transfer of Leopard 2s to Ukraine if the US also sent M1 Abrams.
"If the Germans continue to say we will only send or release Leopards on the conditions that Americans send Abrams, we should send Abrams," Democratic Senator Chris Coons, a Biden ally, told Politico on Tuesday.
Britain has already said it will send Challenger Two tanks to Ukraine.
Ukraine is still unlikely to get the 300 modern main battle tanks it says it needs to win the war.
But if half a dozen Western nations each provide 14 tanks, then that would bring the total to nearly 100 - which could make a difference.
Western tanks - including the UK's Challenger 2, Germany's Leopard 2 and the US-made Abrams - are all seen as superior to their Soviet-era counterparts, like the ubiquitous T-72.
They will provide Ukrainian crews with more protection, speed and accuracy.
But Western modern main battle tanks are not a wonder weapon or game-changer on their own. It's also what's being supplied alongside them.
In recent weeks, there's been a step change in heavy weapons being supplied by the West - including hundreds more armoured vehicles, artillery systems and ammunition.
Combined together, they are the kind of military hardware needed to punch through Russian lines and to retake territory.
If Ukrainian troops can be trained and the weapons delivered in time, they could form key elements of any spring offensive. A missing element for offensive operations is still air power.
Ukraine has been asking for the West to provide modern fighter jets since the war began. So far, none has been delivered.
Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann of the liberal FDP party, who chairs the defence committee of the German parliament had previously described reports that Germany had approved the tanks as a relief to "the battered and brave Ukrainian people."
"The decision was tough, it took far too long, but in the end it was unavoidable," she said.
Allied nations had become frustrated at what they perceived as German reluctance to send the armoured vehicles in recent days.
The Ukrainian president's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, on Tuesday called on Western countries to give Kyiv hundreds of tanks to form a "crushing fist" against Russia.

Hello from Ukrainian village!
As always I will share with you all the charms of the village life and picturesque views in this video.
Today I dance like Celentano, do you know why? The reason is simple - I've decided to try myself in winemaking. Creating homemade wine is new experience for me) But the main rule of village life is to make good use of every plant you have! Nothing should be thrown in a garbage. That's why our grapes will be used for creating delicious and tasty things)

My time in western Ukraine continued in one of its most beautiful regions, Transcarpathia, near the Polish, Hungarian, and Slovakian borders. Come with me as I take you to experience authentic Transcarpathian food in Berehove, Ukraine!
My day began with my friend and guide Diana from Tours by Locals at Chateau Chizay in the wine capital of Transcarpathia, Berehove. We were right on the Hungarian border, and Chateau Chizay is the best winery in the area.
👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/davids-been-here
Inside, I met everyone and saw the gift shop, where they sell 25 types of wine, including kosher wines, pinot blanc, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, and many others. They also have a big, old-school barrel that used to be used to press the grapes. It’s now used for leaving tips!
Next, we saw the Chateau Chizay Museum, where you can learn about the history of the wine-making practices in the region. I loved the giant barrels!
The museum was one large room where you can learn about the wine-making process and the region’s history of wine-making.
Then, we headed to the wine tasting room for a Premium tasting, which includes cheese, crackers, chocolates, and nuts, and 8 different wines.
We started with a dry, white 2020 Chersegi. It was clean and easy to drink and not too fruity. Next was a dry rose called Sakura Transcarpatia. It was very young and pink and had a strong, fruity, strawberry flavor.
The dry red cabernet came from their best wine year ever and was smooth and bold. It would be great with a big steak! We followed that with a semi-sweet white called Moscato Ottonel, which I loved. It was so good!
Their semi-sweet red blend was dry and fruity but also easy to drink. Next was pinot grigio with lime and mint, which was semi-sweet. It’s the first wine they ever exported to the U.S. It had such a unique flavor!
The Troyanda dessert rose is served in a small glass and smelled like port and cognac. I loved it so much! It costs only $15 and took me back to my time in Portugal! Their grape white blend was also excellent! I loved the flavor of the indigenous grapes!
Then, we drove 5 minutes through the historical center of Berehove to Chizay Mala Hora, which looked like another chateau with vineyards behind it.
In the kitchen, I saw the snails, which are frozen and stuffed with butter and baked. They also made some stews, mushroom soup, beetroot salads, and more. They put so much love into the food!
Back at our table, we started with the snails from the vineyard. They were amazing with the garlic butter. I followed it with a beetroot salad with pork, cabbage, and greens. I loved the honey-mustard dressing.
Next was the mushroom soup, which was so creamy. The entire Transcarpathia region is famous for its mushrooms. The soup was earthy and oily and would be the perfect hangover cure! It contained more mushrooms than cream!
Next was the turkey and white mushroom sauce with mashed potatoes and some pinot noir. It felt like a Thanksgiving dish! The turkey was so fresh and the mashed potatoes were nice and creamy. It was a nice, heavy dish and one of my favorite dishes of my trip so far. The pinot noir was light, dry, fruity, and not too sweet.
Next was deruny, a type of potato pancake with sour cream, avocado, arugula, and trout. It was thick, creamy, fatty, and so fresh! Everything was phenomenal! Then, I finished with some espresso. I loved this restaurant!
